But how does a MED solar desalinator work?
Here is explained, in a few points, the basic function of a MED type solar energy desalinator (MED, Multi-Effect Distillation):
- The salt water is taken from the sea through special filtering and pre-treatment systems;
- The salt water is nebulized inside special multi-effect vacuum evaporative chambers, where it evaporates by absorbing heat from the hot fluid coming from the panels;
- The vapor is sent into the condenser, where it becomes pure distilled water;
- Distilled water goes to a post-treatment and enrichment process, where it is transformed into fresh drinking water.
